Update on Magic

26 May 2017

In preparation for the draw of Australian Double Dan Horsemanship’s first Insiders give-away horse we thought we might give you all a quick update of how Magic is going.

In preparation for the draw of Australian Double Dan Horsemanship’s first Insiders give-away horse we thought we might give you all a quick update of how Magic is going. Magic’s willingness and gentle nature has made his training quite a pleasure. He is honest and has a very willing mindset for any task put in front of him.

He has been working very hard on perfecting his work at liberty, from working on soft circles, the lay down, sit and rolling onto his back. He has also been coming along very nicely being ridden without a saddle and bridle without losing any ridden aids, whilst remaining calm and controlled.

Magic’s ridden career has made excellent progress. He has developed softness through both his bridle and his body. He has a very willing attitude to learn which makes him a pleasure to work with.  Whilst being under the training of Donal Hancock, he has been started on the mechanical cow, and has been introduced briefly to cattle. Magic showed much interest and prospect when working the cattle - which doesn’t surprise us with his breeding! He has been taught many different manoeuvres.  Throughout this learning, he has consistently demonstrated strength, balance and an ability to embrace his willing attitude to think through any questions asked of him.

Magic has also been travelling and performing with Donal Hancock, and he has been taken to large events and he has coped very well under the pressure of the show atmospheres. Magic has also showed his patience and temperament whilst helping a man who is wheelchair-bound.  This gentleman was able to mount Magic from the lay down position, ride him up to a normal standing position, and then ride around. This just emphasised how special this horse really is.

Magic is proving to be a very sensible, fun and versatile horse and we continue to be delighted with his progress. We are all excited to meet his new owner in September at Total Equine Queensland in Toowoomba, Queensland.
